Just in : Ondo Govt Clears Subvention Arrears, Urges Tertiary Institutions’ Striking Unions to Resume Work

The Ondo State Government has released the outstanding balance of the August subventions owed to the four state-owned tertiary institutions in the state, in a move aimed at addressing salary-related obligations and improving staff welfare.

The payment represents the commencement of the implementation of the 60 per cent increase in subventions approved for the institutions by the state government.

According to the government, the increased funding is intended to strengthen the financial capacity of the institutions to meet their salary obligations and enhance the welfare of workers.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, while appealing to the striking unions in the institutions, urged them to reciprocate the government’s gesture by calling off the industrial action and returning to work.

The governor appealed to the unions to act in good faith and consider the interests of students, stressing the importance of uninterrupted academic activities to the development of the state.

The government said it remained committed to supporting the state-owned tertiary institutions and creating an environment conducive to teaching, learning and staff welfare.
