A journey of a thousand mile they said begins with a step and it’s mandatory for such journey to have a final destination. Against this backdrop, Learners began their final Senior Secondary Certificate Examination for the 2023 NECO today, as most of the students wrote their Civic Education examination, to set for their final journey to the larger society.

The examination which started around 10:00am this morning and ended up at 1:00pm, in most schools across the federation. Some officers of the examination board went round the length and breadth of the State to monitor the exercise. Other bodies for the monitoring included the Quality Assurance Officers from the State Ministry of Education, to see things for themselves.

The situation reports from the field work as gathered by Exponent Magazine News Online, shows that the examination was conducted in a good atmospheric condition, as there were no cases of examination misconduct in some of the schools visited.

Supervisors arrived on time to the venue of the examination, while the invigilators were vigilant and firm with the candidates. Learners conducted themselves well and most of them were properly dressed and they came on time. Although few of the students came late to the Examination centre with some minutes like five to ten past ten O’Clock . Since it was not up to thirty minutes past ten, the supervisor had to allow them into the Hall. The school management were always on the tour to the examination centre for oversight functions. While the sitting arrangements and the numbering of the lockers were okay.

The examination venue was illuminated enough for the learners to read the questions on the question paper provided for them, while the windows are well ventilated. Most Teachers in school visited, were professionally qualified.

The area that needed improvement was the toilet, the school authorities needs to build enough toilet which should closer to the examination centre for the sanitary use of the learners, invigilators and the supervisors.

Most schools had a multi- purpose laboratory for the science subjects as against separate Laboratories for the teaching of all science subjects.
There is no functional ICT centre that could equip the learners with computer skills in most schools
