In the early hours of Sunday November 26, 2023, some unidentified individuals attempted to break into the military armoury at Wilberforce Barracks, in Freetown. This same group of assailants proceeded to the Pademba Road and Special Court Correctional Centres, Kissy and Calaba Town Police Stations, broke open the cells and unlawfully released a good number of prisoners and suspects.

addition to currently engaging in a man-haunt to re-arrest these assailants, prisoners or suspects, a full-scale investigation into the said incident has been launched by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), with the view to ascertain the full facts and motive behind it.
In view thereof, advising all prisoners or suspects that were unlawfully released from both Centres and Police Stations on the aforesaid date to report themselves at the nearest police station or risk being arrested and prosecuted for “Escape from Lawful Custody”.
calling on the general public to assist the Police with any relevant information that will aid the speedy conclusion of the investigation.
Be it noted that seized of the facts that some of the prisoners had already turned themselves in to the Sierra Leone Police. Their efforts, in doing so, are recognised, applauded and at the same time appreciated.
The public is further informed that a handsome reward of Fifty Thousand New Leones (50,000 NLe) will be offered to anyone who provides any useful information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of any of the assailants who were involved in the security breach; and an additional Ten Thousand New Leones (10,000 NLe) for the arrest of prisoners or suspects that were illegally released from the Correctional Centres and Police Stations aforementioned, on Sunday 26* November, 2023.
