Violent Robbery Attack Claims 47-Year-Old Man’s Life in Akure

A 47-year-old refrigeration and air-conditioning technician, Idris Abiodun Clement, has lost his life following a violent robbery attack in the Shagari area of Akure, Ondo State, throwing residents into mourning and renewing calls for improved security in the community.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of the weekend when a gang of suspected armed robbers invaded the neighbourhood, attacking residents and making away with valuables before allegedly killing Clement.
Residents disclosed that the hoodlums, believed to be between three and four in number, stormed the area at about 1 a.m., robbing several households before forcing their way into the deceased’s residence.
The attack has generated outrage among family members, friends and neighbours, who are demanding that security agencies ensure the arrest and prosecution of every person linked to the crime.
Speaking on the incident, one of the deceased’s sons, AbdulFatai Clement, said his father confronted the attackers in a bid to protect members of the family, unaware of their numerical strength and weaponry.
According to him, the robbers had already attacked two houses before reaching their compound.
“My father didn’t want to leave anything to chance, so he confronted one of the robbers, not knowing there were about three or four of them and that they were heavily armed. They attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them pulled out a gun and shot him. They fled immediately after he collapsed. We rushed him to the hospital, but he had lost too much blood and the doctors confirmed him dead,” he said.
A close associate of the deceased, Hakeem, described Clement as a generous and humble man who was always willing to support others and encourage people in their businesses.
He noted that the late technician was highly respected in the community for his professionalism and kindness, adding that his death has created a painful vacuum among family members and friends.
The widow of the deceased, Taibat Clement, appealed to the Ondo State Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice, describing her late husband as a hardworking, peaceful and responsible family man.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the robbery and murder.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, disclosed that the suspect is currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) and is assisting investigators.
According to him, the Command under the leadership of CP Felix Ohagwu remains committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.
“We have arrested a suspect in connection with the violent attack on residents of Shagari and the killing of the technician. The Command, under the leadership of CP Felix Ohagwu, is committed to ensuring that everyone involved is brought to justice. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the robbery gang who are still at large,” Abayomi said.
He assured the bereaved family and residents of the area that the police would carry out a comprehensive investigation and ensure that all those found culpable face the full weight of the law.
