We’re Churning out 62 First Class Graduates – OAUSTECH VC
Highlights some monumental achievements under two years in office…
The Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Nigeria, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa has revealed that the University is churning out 62 first class graduates during it’s forthcoming second combined convocation slated for Monday, 4th March, 2024, which coincided with the Institution’s 16th Year Founders’ Day anniversary.
Prof. Ologunorisa, who made the revelations during the pre-convocation press briefing held at the main campus of the University on Tuesday, 27 February, 2024, disclosed that 23 of the first class graduates were 2020/2021 set and the remaining 39 were of 2022/2023 set.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the total of 527 second class upper graduates were produced within the two sessions, with 552 second class lower divisions graduates and 61 third class division graduates respectively.
Congratulating the graduands, Ologunorisa, who revealed that Friday, 23rd February, 2024 marked his two years in office, dwelled on some of his monumental achievements within the two years in office, to include establishment of additional three Schools to the existing three Schools of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (SAFNR), School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) and School of Science, that he meant on ground.
He stated he was able to add the School of Management Sciences, School of Earth Sciences and ultimately the School of Nursing and Allied Sciences in the last two years of his assumption of office, saying more schools are still coming up.
The other achievements he highlighted to include increase in number of students’ enrolment, over subscription of the newly-introduced Nursing programme and the Institution’s ability to, for the first time exhaust it’s admission quota of about two thousand allotted slots.
“I have even written the JAMB for additional quotas”, he disclosed.
He further disclosed, that the University under his watch, has been able to produce, for the first time, a 10-Year Strategic Plan/Roadmap spanning 2023 – 2033 for the continuous development of the University.
Ologuorisa stated that other feats by his administration include moving the Institution from being a teaching to research- based University, maintaining stable academic calendar, regular salary payment, payments of 60% of retirees and deceased staff emoluments for the first time in the history of the University, payments of 70% of past Principal Officers entitlements, completion of Central Engineering Workshop and opening of many linkages and collaborations with leading universities abroad for the benefit of staff and students, and facilitation of cut-edging world-class research outputs among others.
Fielding questions from journalists, he said the University has very zero tolerance for cultism. Adding that this is assisted by putting on ground active intelligence network, security cooperation and insistence of the University Management on the slogan of “no sacred cow”.
The VC answering another question hinted that the School is already working with the University Governing Council on instituting a policy paper with regards to retainment of the Institution’s first class graduates.
Rounding off, Prof. Ologunorisa applauded late Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, *SAN* , *CON* , for his massive support for the University in the areas of road construction, infrastructural development, NEEDS Assessment and TETFund Enlistment among others.
