The Ondo State Executive Council on Wednesday approved the sum of N3.47 billion counterpart funds for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

The Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, Engr. Razaq Obe and Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Hon. Olugbenga Omole, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the
State Executive Council meeting on Thursday at the Governor’s office in Akure.

The RAMP Project would see many feeder roads asphalted to connect rural dwellers to cities and drive the economy of the State through Agriculture, while other life impacting community projects will equally be executed.

Omole said: “The heart of our state lies in its agricultural sector. Our hardworking farmers toil day in and day out to cultivate the land and produce the bounty that sustains us all. However, their efforts are often hindered by inadequate road networks, making it challenging to transport their goods to markets.

“By investing in the improvement of rural roads, we are not only facilitating smoother transportation but also opening up avenues for our agricultural produce to reach markets and towns more efficiently. This means fresher produce, reduced transportation costs, and ultimately, lower food prices for all.

“Accessible road networks are the arteries through which the lifeblood of our economy flows. They connect our rural communities to the broader marketplace, enabling our farmers to thrive and ensuring that no corners of our communities are left behind.”

Also, as part of commitment to transforming Akure, the state capital into smart city, Ondo State government has approved street lighting system via solar-powered street light.

The streetlight project was approved by the Executive Council as part of the agenda of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration’s 21st century paradigm shift for sustainable development in the State.

Engr. Obe said: “The Light Up Akure project received thorough discussion, focusing on its role in addressing the issue of darkness in the state, with Akure serving as the pilot phase. The project is expected to launch within weeks, with plans for expansion to other areas in the coming months.

“Furthermore, community involvement and protection of government assets were emphasized. The project will soon commence the installation of public illumination solar-powered streetlights and traffic lights, with community input welcomed.”

Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Prince Adu Omotayo as the new Asinigbo of Isinigbo in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo state.

In the same vein, the Council also approved the appointment of warrant Chiefs for the purpose of appointing new Afa of Oke-Agbe in Akoko North West Local Government Area.
