The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation to all the fourteen programmes presented for the accreditation exercise by Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria. This was contained in a letter addressed to the OAUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, dated 6 June 2024 signed by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission.

It would be recalled that NUC conducted accreditation of academic programmes at the institution in October and November last year.

The institution’s programmes had got interim accreditation in the previous exercise conducted before the administration of Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa who assumed office on 23 March 2022.

The NUC letter which gave positive results of the full accreditation stated that: “In line with the provisions of the Act, the Commission organized the accreditation of academic programmes at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology Okitipupa in October/November 2023.

The result of the exercise indicated full accreditation for all the programmes on offer in the university, which include the following:
Agriculture, Fisheries, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Electronic Engineering, Food Science Technology, Mechanical Engineering.

Other courses that got full accreditation from the NUC include Botany, Geophysics, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Statistics and Zoology.

At its 53rd Regular Meeting on Tuesday, 11th June 2024, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju, who was highly impressed by the full accreditation of all programmes offered in OAUSTECH, on behalf of the Council commended the Management under the leadership of the erudite Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, for this superlative achievement.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at OAUSTECH, Dr Rotimi Olorunsola, praised the Vice-Chancellor for the successful outcome of the accreditation. He noted that both the quality of staff employed and the quality assurance measures put in place at various levels of institutional governance played pivotal roles in actualizing the fantastic result.

Dr Olorunsola, who is also OAUSTECH’s Acting Director, Centre of Excellence in Leadership and Training (CELT), as well commended him for establishing various academic standards to bring OAUSTECH to the world map and also keying in the Blue Economy of the world.
He urged the institution’s helmsman to be relentless in steering the ship of the University to a safe harbour.

Speaking further on the feat, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Union of Universities (SSANU), Comrade Dayo Temola, said that he is elated that all programmes the University presented for accreditation were fully accredited. He maintained that it is iconic in the history of the institution, as he applauded the Vice-Chancellor for turning around the institution, particularly reviving the University farm to earn accreditation in Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Science Technology.

In the same vein, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Dr Olusola Akintunlaji pointed out that it is a giant step in repositioning the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology.

The Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union in the institution (NASU), Mr. Kunle Akinwonmi, commended Prof. Ologunorisa for rejuvenating the institution since his arrival at OAUSTECH. He maintained that prompt payment of salaries and other benefits of staff improved the morale of staff to be more committed, leading to success in accreditation.

The Chairman of the National Association of Academic Technologists in OAUSTECH, Mr Bobola Bagbola, praised the Vice-Chancellor for providing opportunities for training and retraining to both academic and non-teaching staff in the institution, in addition to the provision of standard University Central Laboratory.
He noted that failure to have a standard central laboratory, and train and retrain staff affected the outcome of the previous exercise.
