Education: Students Dwell More On What Will Not Benefit Them.
By Olusegun HOSEA. 20th June, 2024.

Education has been described as the gate way that unlock the door of opportunities in our society. The fallen standard in the achievement and standard of the learners have been attributed to many factors of which Exponent Magazine News reporter extended it’s tentacles to find out the causes and probably the solutions to the problems from a renowned educationist and Administrator per excellent in the education sector, Mrs Ola Oba Ado, Principal of Army Comprehensive High School, Army Barracks Akure .

According to her, education connote teaching and learning and that we have stakeholders in it . We have Teachers, we have parents and we have students .All of them have their roles to play in ensuring that standard is maintained in educational sectors. She explained that when we talked about the fall, many things contributed to the fall of education as these days could not be compared to their days in the year past as technology has  affected the backwardness of the students.

She opined that this day students dwell on what would not benefit them than things that will benefit them and that it seems to be that they are forced to get education. While speaking  on the fallen standard of education and how Teachers could improved the learners performance, Mrs Ola Oba said the efforts that could braced the performance of the learners in their academic was for the Teachers to be attending constant training and seminars that would enhanced their productivity in the learning outcomes of their students. In her words ” The Government should do everything possible to see that they have arranged seminars to boost the intellects of these Teachers . Many of them have studied for a very long time. So when we have constant seminars that teachers are attending,  they would brace up to international standard.”

In another development, when asked the way forward and how to make the curriculum practically oriented among the students, ? her response was that government have a lot of it to participate . Also, the individual that are concerned, most especially the teachers too have a role to play and that they must be willing to learn because it’s what they have they would impact to their Children or students and so they must be focused and be ready to impact to the world of this day.

She emphasized that students of this day don’t like to learn as they are forcing them to learn but very few of them are interested . But these few of them are not as many as those that are not interested in learning.

She advised that government should embarked on the aggressive awareness method on the education for these students that are not interested in learning to know that their future is in their hands. That it is what they have that can encourage, enhance and improved the society .

She also said that teachers should also know that all eyes are on them and that they should do everything possible to see that they studied . The studies must be current, regular and progressive while the government must try as much as possible to spend money and finance these seminars to teachers to attend so that educational system must be brighten so that we  will be at the level of international world of which we must not go behind because we are developing country so that we will be able to face the larger world.

Similarly, the principal advised the teachers to be push full a little bit in order to impact knowledge to the students as there were few of them that are serious while majority of them are still having challenges to cope with. She said may be because of their backgrounds or because the way they sees themselves .

She explained that the teachers are still forcing the students to impact knowledge to them . Although she said since she have resumed as the principal in the school , the students have started improving in their academic but then they are still embarking on forceful drive for them to get impacting education.

CHALLENGE

She also talked about other challenges facing the schools which includes infrastructure. The authorities are still beckoning on the government to come to their Aid. She pointed out the contribution of the four classroom building built by the Ondo State Universal Basic education Board and the old students of the School as well as the Parents Teachers Association -P.T .A for the learners to enhanced their learning. She said all these people are trying their best in time of infrastructural contribution to the school to see that the school is moving forward.

She appealed to the government to help them complete the perimeter fencing of the school to prevent encroachment . Army Comprehensive High School is a forty four years old that needs infrastructural development to meet up with large population for the betterment of the learners and the staff that are working to ensure that these learners become useful to themselves, their families, school and the society at large .
