GOV AIYEDATIWA MEETS WITH STUDENTS’ UNION LEADERS, ASSURES ON INCREASED FUNDING FOR EDUCATION

The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, at the weekend assured students that his administration will adequately fund the tertiary institutions in the State as part of increased funding for the education sector.

The Governor stated this when he met with Presidents of the Students Union Governments (SUG) of tertiary institutions in the State at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House in Akure on Saturday.

The meeting was organised by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Kelvin Solomon Olaolu.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said his administration has increased the subvention to state-owned tertiary institutions, while projects in the schools are being funded.

The Governor promised to look into the various issues and concerns raised by the student leaders, including the issue of procurement of buses for them.

He urged them to maintain peace on their various campuses and shun incessant protests on issues that can be easily resolved.

Leader of the delegation, Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua, Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ondo State, thanked the Governor for grating audience to the student leaders.

He also thanked the Governor for the payment of backlog of salary arrears of the workers of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.

The student leaders who spoke at the meeting thanked the Governor for appointing a young person as SSA on Students Affairs and urged him to allow regular interactions between government and the student leaders.

The student leaders declared their support for the Governor in the coming gubernatorial election in the State.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment, Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore.

Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan,
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State.
