Ilaje LG Chairman Flags Off Polio Immunization Campaign, Urges Full Community Support

Igbokoda, May 2, 2025

Ahead of the nationwide Polio Immunization Campaign set to begin on Saturday, May 3, the Executive Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Hon. Amona Maurice Ola Oripenaye (Arah), has addressed top health officers and trained personnel, calling for full commitment and community participation to ensure the success of the medical exercise across all wards in the LGA.

Speaking at the Comprehensive Health Centre near the Civic Centre in Igbokoda, Hon. Oripenaye charged the Local Immunization Officer, Mrs. Onikan Wemimo, her assistant, and Cold Chain Officer Mr. Ogunjimi Ilori, along with other trained health workers, to ensure every assigned team reaches their designated centers — especially in remote and riverine areas such as Awoye, Ikorigho Molutenhin, and Odofado.

“We must not leave any child behind,” the Chairman emphasized. “Our teams must go to the riverine communities to ensure that children in those difficult-to-reach areas receive the polio vaccine.”

To further bolster the campaign, Hon. Oripenaye announced the formation of a dedicated monitoring committee to supervise the immunization efforts, particularly in hard-to-access zones. He also pledged full support from the local government in terms of logistics and other necessary assistance, and called on parents and guardians to present their children for the free immunization.

“This is about the health and future of our children,” he said. “We encourage all fathers and mothers in Ilaje to cooperate with the health workers and ensure their children get immunized.”

Hon. Oripenaye also extended his gratitude to the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for making the free medical program possible, noting its critical importance in eradicating polio from Ilaje LGA.

The National Polio Immunization Campaign kicks off across Nigeria on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Hon. Sadare Taiwo
