Dr Oyesanmi Calls for Collective Action Against Exam Malpractice to Safeguard Education Sector
By Exponent News, Akure | July 15, 2025

A passionate call for urgent and concerted efforts to tackle examination malpractice in Nigeria’s education system has been made by Dr. Oyesanmi Taiwo , a prominent educationist and proprietor of Esther kawe Group of Schools, Okitipupa Ondo State.

Speaking in a recorded message, Dr. Oyesanmi warned that without addressing the growing menace of exam malpractice, the nation’s dream of sustainable educational development and national progress would remain elusive.

“If examination malpractice is not curbed, the developmental strategy of this country, especially in the education sector, will not be achieved,” He stressed.

According to him, the implications of malpractice stretch beyond poor academic standards to issues of national insecurity and underdevelopment. “When you train a child, you close the door of a prison,” he added, emphasizing the role of proper education in crime prevention.

He proposed a three-point strategy to combat the vice, which includes:

1. Organizing regular seminars to sensitize stakeholders about the dangers of malpractice.

2. Mandating supervisors, exam hosts, and education stakeholders to convene and issue a joint communiqué with clear anti-malpractice guidelines.

3. Ensuring proper remuneration for all actors involved in the examination process—including teachers, supervisors, invigilators, and even those printing question papers—to remove incentives for unethical behavior.

Dr. Oyesanmi noted that lapses in both internal supervision and external processes like question leakage must be addressed with clear accountability mechanisms.

He insisted that reducing malpractice by up to 70% is possible if the government and private sector implement better pay structures and apply strict penalties for offenders.

“Everybody seems comfortable with the current trend of malpractice, but we must act decisively. We cannot continue to sit in offices, ignoring these grassroots recommendations,” he concluded.

Dr. Oyesanmi’s remarks add to the growing voices demanding reforms in Nigeria’s educational framework, calling for integrity, funding, and genuine commitment to nation-building through quality education.
