The Ondo State Police Command has announced major breakthroughs in two separate criminal investigations—one involving a multi-million naira fraud scheme and the other a tragic homicide in the state capital, Akure.

According to press releases signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, and referenced as AZ:5280/ONS/PPRO/VOL.1/289 and AZ:5280/ONS/PPRO/VOL.1/290, both arrests highlight the Command’s commitment to combating crime under the strategic direction of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc+, MNIPS, and the broader policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.

Suspects Nabbed in ₦25 Million Facebook Fraud

One of the cases stems from a February 2025 petition by a victim, Prince Adebola Adoye, who alleged he was defrauded of ₦25 million by two individuals—Ojo Oluwafemi and Omowunmi Balogun, both residents of Ilobu, Osun State.

The suspects reportedly conspired to deceive the complainant via a Facebook platform, eventually converting the funds to personal use. Acting on this report, detectives from the Command’s Special Enquiry Unit launched a thorough investigation marked by intelligence gathering and surveillance operations.

Their efforts yielded results when Ojo Oluwafemi was arrested on 29th July 2025 in Ijebu-Ijesha, and Omowunmi Balogun was captured a day later at Shoprite Roundabout in Akure. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.

CP Lawal described the arrests as a clear warning to cybercriminals that “the Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate their activities,” emphasizing that the long arm of the law extends beyond state boundaries. He credited the IGP’s push for technology-driven policing as a key factor in the success of such operations.

Tragic Death Over ₦800 Dispute in Akure

In another shocking development, the Command is investigating a homicide case involving Tewogboye Omowumi, a 35-year-old woman who tragically lost her life following a domestic altercation with her younger sister, Iluyemi Bosede.

The incident, which occurred on 6th September 2025 at about 8:00 PM in Akure, reportedly began over a dispute involving ₦800, the cost of tomatoes and pepper. During the heated exchange, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s clothing, causing her to fall. She was rushed to the hospital but was sadly declared dead on arrival.

The suspect has since been arrested, and the police have launched an active investigation into the matter. CP Lawal called on residents to resolve disputes peacefully, warning that “trivial disagreements can escalate into irreversible tragedies.”

Public Vigilance and Support Urged

The Ondo State Police Command continues to urge residents to remain vigilant, especially in digital spaces, and to report any suspicious activities promptly. The Command expressed gratitude to the IGP for his ongoing support and direction in ensuring safety and order across the country.
