EX-CONVICT ARRESTED FOR BEATING GIRLFRIEND TO DEATH OVER ₦100,000 DISPUTE

Date:15 October, 2025

The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of one Omokinwa Ademola, a 37-year-old male and ex-convict, for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, over a dispute involving the sum of one hundred thousand naira (₦100,000).

The incident occurred on the 7th of October, 2025, at about 5:30 PM, when one Ngozi Gregory (female, 45 years) reported at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters that the suspect had assaulted his girlfriend during an argument concerning the refund of a loan.

Preliminary investigations revealed that during the altercation, the suspect became violent and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she lost consciousness. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but was unfortunately confirmed dead by a medical practitioner.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Idanre Division, led a team of detectives to the scene, resulting in the prompt arrest of the suspect. The body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue for autopsy, and investigations commenced immediately at the Divisional level.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc+, mnips, condemned the brutal act and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence and all forms of brutality. He further directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet and professional investigation.

The Commissioner also assured the public of the Command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state. He extended his appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his consistent support and strategic leadership, which have significantly enhanced police operations in the state and across the nation.

Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and report any suspicious or criminal activities to the nearest police formation for prompt response.

E-Signed:
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola
