Akure, October 22nd 2025

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) yesterday commenced a two-day Board and Management Retreat at the Continent Hotel, Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The retreat, themed “Charting a New Vision for a Greater OSOPADEC,” is aimed at fostering synergy among key stakeholders of the Commission, enhancing institutional effectiveness, and realigning the Commission’s focus towards more impactful and sustainable development in its mandate areas—primarily the oil-producing communities of Ilaje and Ese-Odo local government areas.

Day One of the high-level retreat witnessed the active participation of Board members, top management staff, department heads, and invited facilitators. The agenda for the opening day included keynote addresses, technical sessions, group discussions, and strategic presentations focused on performance evaluation, transparency, accountability, and innovative service delivery.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the OSOPADEC Board, Prince Biyi Poroye emphasized the importance of collaboration, clear vision, and measurable outcomes. He noted that the retreat presents an opportunity to review the Commission’s achievements, identify existing challenges, and propose practical strategies to drive socio-economic development in the oil-bearing communities.

“This retreat is not just a routine meeting; it is a critical platform for self-assessment and forward-thinking. We must recalibrate our approaches, improve service delivery, and ensure that our interventions have lasting impacts on the lives of our people,” the Chairman stated.

Also speaking, the Commission’s Executive Secretary, highlighted the role of leadership and innovation in repositioning OSOPADEC to fulfill its statutory responsibilities effectively. She encouraged participants to engage with open minds and contribute meaningfully to the sessions.

Facilitators drawn from various sectors, including governance, development planning, and public policy, led interactive sessions on topics such as strategic project implementation, stakeholder engagement, fiscal responsibility, and performance monitoring.

The atmosphere was one of reflection and renewed commitment, as participants shared insights on how to improve internal processes and ensure that OSOPADEC’s intervention programs align with the yearnings of its primary stakeholders—the people of the oil-producing areas.

The retreat continues today, October 22, with a focus on action planning, capacity building, and the adoption of new policy frameworks to guide the Commission’s operations in the coming years.
