Ondo Govt Responds to Leaked Security Memo, Assures Residents of Safety

Akure, Nigeria – October 22, 2025
The Ondo State Government has reassured residents of their safety following the circulation of a leaked security memo warning of a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state.

The memo, originally issued by the State Security Services to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, surfaced in the media earlier this week, sparking public concern. However, the state government has clarified that such memos are routine intelligence updates used to coordinate security responses among agencies.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said the intelligence report forms part of regular inter-agency communications designed to identify and mitigate potential threats before they materialize.

“These types of intelligence reports are common practice among security agencies,” the statement read. “They are not meant for public alarm but to enhance preparedness and proactive intervention. Necessary precautions are already being taken.”

Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, according to the release, is in ongoing coordination with security agencies, particularly in border communities, to strengthen preventive measures and ensure Ondo State remains one of the safest in the country.

“The public should go about their daily activities without fear. We are committed to protecting every resident and will continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure public safety,” the statement concluded.
