Embrace Innovation and Entrepreneurship, OSOPADEC Chairman Urges

The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, has charged Nigerian graduates to become innovators and job creators through entrepreneurship, technology, and technical skills.

Prince Poroye gave the charge on Thursday, 23td October , 2025, while delivering the 12th–23rd Combined Convocation Lecture of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, titled “Innovations, Entrepreneurship and Technical Skills: Drivers of Emerging Economies.”

Commending the institution’s commitment to technological advancement, the OSOPADEC helmsman described innovation as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic growth. He also lauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his continuous support of educational development in Ondo State.

Prince Poroye urged the graduating students to apply their knowledge and training to solve local challenges, build sustainable businesses, and align their professional pursuits with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Reject dependency and embrace an entrepreneurial identity. Do not join the queue of the unemployed; start a new line of production,” he admonished.

The OSOPADEC Chairman also called on governments at all levels to prioritize education by adequately funding polytechnic workshops and innovation centers, and by formulating policies that encourage entrepreneurship and skills development.

He further advocated for the continuous review of polytechnic curricula to integrate emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, and renewable energy technologies.

“The present reality and the future belong to those who combine innovation, entrepreneurship, and technical skill,” Poroye stated, adding that his recommendations provide a sure path to advancing young graduates and society through technology.
