The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a major sex trafficking network operating under the guise of a job recruitment and social media content creation business in Akure, rescuing 15 young women who were being exploited.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the operation was carried out by the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit following credible intelligence. The principal suspect, identified as Jayeola Joshua of Alagbaka, Akure, was arrested alongside two accomplices, while efforts are ongoing to track down others involved.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate lured its victims—aged between 20 and 26—from various parts of the country with fake promises of lucrative jobs, including domestic work, ushering services, and overseas employment. Upon arrival in Akure, the young women were confined in an apartment in Alagbaka, which served as the group’s operational base.

Police findings indicated that the suspects coerced the victims into producing nude videos and photographs that were sent to paying clients. The operation was cleverly disguised as social media “relationship content,” concealing its criminal intent and misleading the public. The apartment used for the activities was reportedly rented for this purpose, prompting the Commissioner of Police to order the invitation of the landlords for questioning.

The rescued women have been taken to the Police Hospital in Akure for medical attention, psychological evaluation, and counseling. The case has been handed over to the Command’s Gender Desk for further investigation and the reintegration of the victims into society.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for human trafficking and sexual exploitation. He emphasized that all suspects would be prosecuted and directed intensified efforts to apprehend fleeing accomplices.

Lawal commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his leadership and support, noting that intelligence-driven and collaborative policing strategies have strengthened the Command’s operations.

He also advised parents and guardians to verify job offers and recruitment agencies before allowing their wards to travel, urging the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to help the police prevent and detect crime.
