Banger causes loud explosion in Ondo, Suspect in Custody

By Exponent News Akure,15th November, 2025.

A loud explosion that startled residents near the Polaris Bank area of Owo, Ondo State, on Saturday has been traced to a banger, according to the Ondo State Police Command.

The Command confirmed that its operatives immediately opened an investigation after receiving reports of the blast. Preliminary findings showed that the explosion was caused by a banger allegedly purchased from a nearby supermarket.

One suspect, Ayoola Daniel Ojumu of Owo, has been arrested and has reportedly confessed to his involvement. The police added that his accomplice, believed to be the person who ignited the banger, is still at large. Efforts are underway to track and arrest the fleeing suspect.

The Command expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continued support in ensuring public safety. It urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards during the festive period to prevent incidents capable of causing panic or disruption of public order.

Police authorities assured that the arrested suspect will be charged to court after the investigation is completed. Meanwhile, residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
