ADC Ondo Chapter Faces Fresh Turmoil as Olaide Ibraheem Gives National Leadership 14 Days

Date:21st January, 2026

The crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) escalated on Tuesday as Hon. Olaide Rasheed Ibraheem laid claim to the party’s state chairmanship and issued a 14-day ultimatum to the national leadership to reinstate him.
Speaking at a press conference in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Ibraheem maintained that he remains the authentic Chairman of the party in the state, having emerged from a duly conducted state congress held on October 7, 2020. He said the congress was peaceful, monitored by security agencies, and has not been superseded by any subsequent congress.
According to him, the administration of the party under his leadership was conducted strictly in line with the ADC constitution, stressing that he personally funded party activities in the absence of political office holders or financial subventions.
Ibraheem alleged that his removal on November 28, 2024, by the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Raphael Nwosu, was carried out in an “embarrassing and unconstitutional manner,” describing the action as a clear violation of party supremacy as enshrined in Article 2 of the ADC constitution.
He argued that the constitution does not vest the National Chairman with the power to remove a duly elected state chairman, accusing Nwosu of acting beyond his authority by dissolving state and local government party executives without due process.
The former chairman said he initially refrained from going public with the matter, hoping that respected elders within the party would intervene and prevail on the national leadership to reverse the decision. However, he lamented that no corrective action has been taken so far.
Ibraheem further accused the national leadership of disregarding Article 18 of the party’s constitution, which, according to him, mandates the conduct of congresses before any action capable of destabilizing a state chapter is taken.
He warned that failure to reinstate him and other affected state and local government executives within 14 days would leave them with no option but to pursue further steps in seeking redress.
He called on the ADC national leadership to urgently restore constitutional order, warning that continued disregard for due process could deepen the internal crisis in the Ondo State chapter of the party.
