Ilaje LG Hails Security Agencies, Governor as Abducted DG Asiwaju media team Regains Freedom

Date: 21st January,2026

Relief spread across Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State following the safe release of Prince Owolemi Emorioloye,  popularly known as Emotel ,the  DG Asiwaju Media Team, who was abducted last Thursday along the Okonga/Olodo Junction in Igbokoda.
The Ilaje Local Government Council confirmed the development in a statement issued on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Maurice Oripenaye, describing the release as the outcome of coordinated efforts involving security agencies, government officials, community leaders, and civil society groups.
Prince Emorioloye was reportedly abducted in the early hours of January 15 by unidentified persons, an incident that generated widespread concern and calls for urgent intervention across the state.
The council particularly commended the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for what it described as swift and decisive action, noting that his direct engagement with security agencies played a key role in securing the victim’s release.
Security agencies, especially the Department of State Services (DSS), were also praised for their professionalism and adherence to lawful procedures throughout the operation.
The statement further acknowledged the contributions of Emorioloye’s legal team, Ogbulu Chambers in Akure, led by Barrister Banji Okunomo, as well as traditional rulers, political leaders, APC stakeholders, and community leaders who reportedly engaged in mediation efforts.
Youth organisations, including the Ilaje National Youth Council, Niger Delta Youth Movement, and the National Youth Council of Nigeria, were commended for their advocacy and peaceful mobilisation, while civil society groups and media practitioners were recognised for keeping public attention on the case.
Members of the public and social media users were also applauded for what the council described as responsible engagement and sustained calls for justice.
While celebrating the safe return of Prince Emorioloye, the local government stressed that investigations into the abduction were still ongoing and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of residents, calling on the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of lawful security efforts, while pledging continued collaboration with stakeholders to strengthen community-based security across Ilaje.
