‎A middle-aged man has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly attacking a woman and attempting to kill her during a violent confrontation in Akure, the state capital.
‎The suspect, identified as Oladimeji, was apprehended by operatives of the Okuta Elerinla Divisional Police Headquarters following a distress call from the victim, Bosede, who resides on Kayode Street, Akure.
‎Police sources said the suspect allegedly assaulted the woman with repeated fist blows, bit her left ear, and inflicted multiple injuries on her body. He was also accused of firing a gunshot at the victim during the attack, though she narrowly escaped being hit.
‎A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one unlicensed single-barrel gun, confirming unlawful possession of a firearm.
‎The suspect is currently in police custody, where he is undergoing interrogation and has reportedly made useful statements to assist ongoing investigations. Police authorities confirmed that he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
‎Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, warned residents against engaging in violent acts, stressing that such offences attract severe legal consequences. He reassured the public of the Command’s readiness to respond promptly to distress calls and ensure justice for victims of crime.
‎CP Lawal also acknowledged the support and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, noting that ongoing reforms and technological advancements have continued to strengthen policing across the state.
‎The police command urged residents to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help prevent crime and safeguard lives and property in Ondo State.
