As Ondo State marked its golden jubilee, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Monday unveiled a five-point policy agenda aimed at securing the future of the state, even as the Federal Government pledged continued support for its development aspirations.
The policy framework, which focuses on security, economic diversification, infrastructure, human capital development and transparent governance, was presented at the grand celebration of Ondo State’s 50th anniversary held at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed the President’s goodwill message and assured the people of Ondo State of the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with the state in harnessing its vast human and natural resources for national growth.
The celebration attracted dignitaries from across the country, including the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji; former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunusi; and other prominent sons and daughters of the state.
In the President’s message, Tinubu reaffirmed that the Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, remains committed to supporting Ondo State in improving infrastructure, strengthening security and empowering communities.
“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting Ondo State in harnessing its opportunities, improving infrastructure, strengthening security and empowering communities, ensuring that every citizen benefits from growth and development,” the President said.
He also commended the people of the state for their democratic values and active participation in recent elections, describing their conduct as a boost to Nigeria’s democratic process.
“During the last national elections, the people of Ondo State demonstrated remarkable participation, discipline and commitment to democratic ideals. The President deeply appreciates your support and assures all citizens of Ondo State that his administration remains committed to serving everyone fairly, equitably and inclusively.”
Tinubu further urged the youth to embrace innovation, civic responsibility and discipline, describing them as critical to shaping the next phase of the state’s development.
“You are the architects of the next fifty years. Your creativity, determination and discipline are vital to sustaining Ondo State’s growth and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy,” he said.
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the golden jubilee as both a moment of reflection and a call to action, stressing that his administration’s vision is firmly rooted in people-centred, inclusive and sustainable development.
“Our administration is guided by a clear and unwavering conviction that development must be people-centred, inclusive and sustainable. Our vision for Ondo State is anchored on the security of lives and property; economic diversification and value creation; infrastructural renewal and connectivity; human capital development through education and healthcare; and transparent, accountable and responsive governance,” the governor said.
Reflecting on the state’s journey since its creation, Aiyedatiwa noted that Ondo State was born out of the people’s aspiration for self-expression, dignity and self-governance.
“Today, it is a living, breathing reality, and tomorrow, by the grace of God and the unity of our people, Ondo State shall stand even taller as a beacon of excellence and progress,” he added.
The governor paid tribute to the founding fathers and mothers of the state, traditional rulers, political leaders, civil servants, farmers, teachers and youths whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the state’s development.
He also challenged the youth to take ownership of the future, describing them as authors of the next chapter of Ondo State’s history.
“This Golden Jubilee is yours. You are not merely inheritors of history; you are its authors. The future of Ondo State will be shaped by your creativity, discipline and courage,” Aiyedatiwa said.
