‎2027 Election: The Poor Political Mayhem Looms Ahead.
‎
‎By Olusegun HOSEA, Akure

18th February, 2026
‎
‎As the race for the 2027 election is knocking at the door, the political juggernauts in the state are planning how to win and deliver their various states to the central government across the Federation. Ondo State is not left behind in the preparation for the presidential and other elections that will eventually take place in the state in this political journey that will produce the next leadership to pilot the affairs of the nation. But the hollow political terror going on among the political parties, particularly the ruling party in Ondo State, leaves much to be desired.
‎‎The political turmoil rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent times, which claimed two lives and left many wounded due to the violence that erupted during the conduct of its congress to produce party leaders, was a signal and prelude to what I call the poor political mayhem looming ahead of the 2027 election, as the internal political atmosphere of the ruling party in the state is on a burning fire, waiting for a firefighter’s extinguisher from above to quench it.
‎‎What Matters in Politics?
‎The most common saying in politics is that there are no permanent enemies or friends, but permanent interests. This interest most times is a mixture of joy, chaos, happiness, madness, success, failure, grace, and intrigue. All combined together in some cases could produce good results for those seeking permanent interest and at the same time result in permanent destruction for those who lack contentment. This is sometimes synonymous with the law of karma — a retributive judgment that summarizes the fate of anyone who falls within this category and produces chaos in political parties in the state. The Law of Karma is a spiritual and philosophical principle that states: Every action has consequences. Good actions lead to positive results, and harmful actions lead to negative results.
‎
‎The Philosophy of the Word and Its Origin
‎The word karma comes from Sanskrit and literally means “action.” The Law of Karma is central to several Indian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
‎‎Core Idea
‎Karma teaches that intent matters — not just what you do, but why you do it. Actions create consequences — these may occur immediately or later. Effects can span lifetimes — in traditions that believe in rebirth, karma influences future lives. In simple terms, the law states that when you act with kindness, you experience positive outcomes. Also, when you act with harm or selfishness, you experience suffering or obstacles. Is this the case of some members of the APC in the state?
‎‎Important Clarification
‎Karma is not immediate cosmic punishment or reward, fate or destiny that cannot be changed, or a system of revenge. Instead, it emphasizes personal responsibility and the natural moral cause-and-effect structure of the universe.
‎By this law above, the actions of the past within most political parties in the country, particularly in Ondo State, while trying to pursue the ambition of permanent interest in the party, are what we are seeing happening now. The effects are now rocking the foundation of the same political party that ought to serve as a model and mentor to other opposition political parties in the state.
‎
‎There Is Fire on the Mountain !
‎
‎Reports from security agencies indicate that two people are dead and many injured, while others are hospitalized. This gives us an idea of the trauma the parents of the deceased, if they are still alive, must be going through since the news broke. The position of the wives of the deceased, if the two dead were married, is another concern, as they have now become sudden widows, while their children have become sudden orphans, all because of the permanent interests politicians are pursuing in politics. A similar experience and trauma would affect the parents of those wounded and injured in the hospital. Tears of agony drop from relatives over their loved ones, and cries of horror fill their mouths over the unforeseen incident that visited their homes. Yet those who survived the horror would be thanking God for being alive while planning the next strategy to regain their losses.
‎
‎The Emergency Action by Security
‎
‎The breaking news of the political violence rocking the APC called for more spontaneous and proactive action from security agencies for the purpose of calming the tension and dousing the conflict. This, however, comes with unplanned overhead costs within the command. More money would be injected into operations, and more logistics would be provided for personnel taking part in restoring order so that non-politicians in the community where the mayhem occurred could go about their lawful businesses. While hunting down the perpetrator ‎.

The situation going on now is a serious test of how the 2027 election may unfold if care is not taken in the state. May God forbid a repeat of the nasty political mayhem experienced in the 1980s, when Operation “Wet e” was the order of the day during the power struggle among political parties. But in this scenario, it is only one political party witnessing catastrophe within itself, as the other opposition parties in the state are considered toothless dogs that cannot bite.
‎‎What Next?
‎
‎The leader of any ruling party in a state is the Governor because he is vested with executive power by the citizens of the state. This type of situation is one of the challenges that are facing the leadership position in any country. In the case of Ondo State , courage and determination is what requires to tackle the conflict as the present government will officially mark its one year in office on 24th February 2026, with many planned projects to be commissioned to complement its achievements, as released by the government. But the current incident within the party shows that all is not well among the party members. This is where reconciliation should set in by deploying diplomacy and wisdom in bringing all aggrieved members together in order to ensure both a smooth celebration and a fruitful, successful forthcoming election in the state, and to avoid the poor political mayhem looming ahead of the 2027 election. So that spectators will not ask us a rhetoric question for celebrating about violence or success within the party?
