Fresh violence disrupted ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Wednesday, with authorities confirming two deaths and several injuries following clashes in Idanre Local Government Area.

The incident occurred in Odode-Idanre as the party conducted congresses across its 203 wards statewide. The disturbance reportedly led to the suspension of activities in parts of the area while security operatives moved in to restore order.
Among those affected was Raphael Adetimehin, younger brother of the party’s State Caretaker Chairman, Ade Adetimehin. Party sources said he was attacked during the unrest and sustained serious injuries. His vehicle was also set ablaze in the course of the violence. He was taken to the General Hospital in Idanre for treatment.
Speaking on the development, Ade Adetimehin said his brother was assaulted during the crisis and is receiving medical attention. He called for calm and urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the outbreak of violence. The Police Public Relations Officer said five persons were attacked during the disturbance, with two later confirmed dead at the hospital and three others receiving treatment for varying degrees of injuries.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, alongside the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oluyemi Ibiloye, led a joint security team to the scene. Authorities said normalcy has since been restored, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Reports also indicated that there were disruptions in parts of Akure North Local Government Area, including Iju, where the congress exercise was affected by clashes.
The incidents have raised concerns about tensions within the party in the state. Observers note that party leaders may need to intensify reconciliation efforts to prevent further escalation as internal processes continue.
Security agencies have assured residents of increased patrols and heightened presence in affected areas as investigations proceed.
