OSOPADEC Flags Off 2024/2025 Scholarship Scheme, Introduces Special Awards for Science, Engineering Students

21st April, 2026

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has officially flagged off its 2024/2025 students’ scholarship and bursary scheme, unveiling new incentives targeted at academic excellence in science, engineering, and medical fields.
Speaking at the ceremony held Monday at the Commission’s headquarters in Oba-Ile, Akure, Executive Chairman, Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, said the initiative underscores the Commission’s renewed commitment to human capital development in Ilaje and Ese-Odo local government areas.
Poroye attributed the programme’s continuity and recent improvements to the support of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, whose approval of the bursary process for students in tertiary institutions he described as a clear demonstration of commitment to education and youth development.
He noted that this year’s scheme introduces scholarships for first-class students in science and engineering disciplines, as well as specialized sponsorships for professional courses in pharmacy and medical sciences, aimed at strengthening critical sectors and preparing beneficiaries for global competitiveness.
The chairman also disclosed that the bursary process would be handled with increased speed and transparency, reflecting what he called a “new standard of efficiency and accountability” within the Commission.
He said the initiative builds on resolutions reached at a recent OSOPADEC stakeholders’ summit in Igbokoda, where participants emphasized transparency, community participation, and sustained investment in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
Poroye directed the Commission’s Community Welfare Department to immediately begin the process of identifying and compiling data of eligible students across institutions nationwide.
He urged beneficiaries to remain disciplined and committed to academic excellence, describing the scheme as a stepping stone to greater opportunities.
The event climaxed with the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the chairman by student bodies, including the National Association of Ilaje Students (NAIS) and the Federation of Ese-Odo Local Government Students (FELGOS).
Presenting the award, Special Assistant on Youths and Students Affairs, Comrade Deji Semudara, described Poroye as a visionary leader dedicated to student welfare and human capital development.
