Police Nab Two Suspects, Recover Stolen Lagos Vehicle in Akure River Chase

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspects and recovered a vehicle reported stolen in Lagos, following a swift intelligence-led operation in Akure.
The Command disclosed that the breakthrough came on April 30, 2026, after it received credible intelligence that a silver Hyundai vehicle, earlier stolen in Lagos State, was being transported toward Abuja by suspected criminals. Acting on the tip-off, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a coordinated operation, deploying surveillance tools and real-time intelligence to track the vehicle’s movement.
Police said the suspects were intercepted in Akure after operatives successfully monitored and identified the vehicle along its route. In a dramatic turn, the principal suspect, ThankGod Unchena, 25, reportedly jumped into the Ogbese River in an attempt to evade arrest but was pursued and apprehended by officers.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had earlier handed over the vehicle to a second suspect, Adewole Muyedeen, 53, allegedly to avoid detection upon noticing security presence. This development prompted the immediate arrest of Muyedeen.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while the recovered vehicle has been secured as exhibit. Authorities added that preliminary findings indicate possible links to a wider criminal network, with further investigations ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police in the state commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement with timely and useful information.
