FEDPOLEL Registrar Bags ‘Mayor of Peace’ Honour at Lagos Ceremony
Akure, Nigeria – May 6, 2026
The Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji (FEDPOLEL), Mr. Gabriel Adeyemi Awe, has been inducted as a “Mayor of Peace” by the United Nations Peace and Positive Living Awareness Centre (UN-POLAC Foundation), in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and humanitarian service.
The induction, which took place penultimate Wednesday at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, drew peace advocates, stakeholders, and dignitaries from across Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
UN-POLAC Foundation, a non-governmental organisation established in 2008, promotes peace, volunteerism, and community development globally. Its activities align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO’s Culture of Peace principles.
With the new role, Awe is expected to advance peace advocacy initiatives and encourage non-violent conflict resolution within communities in Nigeria and beyond.
Reacting to the development, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku, congratulated the Registrar on the recognition, describing it as a significant honour to both the institution and the wider academic community. He urged Awe to leverage his experience in further promoting peace and social harmony.
The institution’s community has also welcomed the development, noting that the recognition reflects the growing impact of its staff beyond the academic environment.
