Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt in Akure, rescued a victim and arrested one suspect following a coordinated pursuit along the Oba-Ile axis of the state capital.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when police officers on routine patrol reportedly received intelligence about a man shouting for help from inside a moving red Toyota Camry. Acting swiftly on the distress information, the operatives launched a chase of the vehicle suspected to have been used by the kidnappers.
During the pursuit, the suspects allegedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape arrest. Police operatives, however, continued the operation and succeeded in arresting one of the suspects, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang escaped.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, before the police intervention led to his rescue.
The victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect is said to be assisting investigators with useful information. The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Akure for further investigation and efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and prompt response, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid the fight against crime.
The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Wednesday.
