INEC, Security Agencies Tighten Measures Against Violence Ahead of Ekiti 2026 Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies have intensified efforts to curb vote buying, political violence, and other threats ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
This formed the focus of discussions at a high-level readiness assessment meeting held in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, where members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), electoral officials, and security chiefs reviewed preparations for the governorship poll.
Speaking during the meeting, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, said INEC had intensified voter education, logistics arrangements, training of election personnel, and consultations with political parties, traditional rulers, civil society groups, and the media to ensure a credible electoral process.
He, however, identified vote buying, political thuggery, fake news, transportation challenges, and insecurity in remote communities as major concerns capable of undermining the election if not properly addressed.
According to him, effective collaboration, professionalism, neutrality, and prompt response among security agencies and electoral stakeholders would be critical to sustaining public confidence in the election.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Falade Micheal, stressed the need for coordinated intelligence sharing and operational synergy among security agencies before, during, and after the election.
The police commissioner warned political actors and residents against misinformation, electoral violence, and violations of electoral regulations, assuring that security agencies were prepared to maintain law and order throughout the governorship poll.
