Police Bust Alleged ₦71 Million Interstate Vehicle Fraud Syndicate, Six Arrested
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested six suspects linked to the alleged fraudulent sale and illegal transfer of three heavy-duty vehicles worth over ₦71 million in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough against organized vehicle-related crime.
The suspects — Adeola Kolawole, 56; Alhaji Gani Bello, 73; Oladoja Akeem, 56; Wasiu Adigun, 55; Azeez Yusuf, 49; and Ojo Mudasiru, 40 — were apprehended in Ibadan, Oyo State, following an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives attached to the Fagun Division.
According to the Police, the case originated from a complaint filed on May 22, 2026, by Mr. Paul Aderemi of Ayegunle Street, Ondo. Investigators revealed that the complainant had purchased a low-loader truck, a tipper truck and a small truck valued at approximately ₦71 million in May 2025 and entrusted them to the custody of the principal suspect, Adeola Kolawole, under an agreed arrangement.
Trouble began when Aderemi allegedly discovered on May 13, 2026, that the vehicles had been sold without his consent. He subsequently reported the matter to the Police, prompting an immediate investigation.
Police said intelligence gathered during the operation led to the arrest of Kolawole, who allegedly confessed to selling the vehicles to Alhaji Gani Bello in Ibadan. His statement reportedly provided critical leads that enabled investigators to track and arrest the remaining suspects believed to have participated in the transaction.
The Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to recover the three vehicles and uncover the full scope of the alleged criminal network. All six suspects have reportedly made statements to investigators and are expected to be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
The Ondo State Police Command described the arrests as a reflection of its commitment to intelligence-driven policing and its determination to pursue criminal suspects beyond state boundaries. Authorities noted that the successful operation highlighted effective inter-state collaboration and reinforced the message that offenders would be held accountable regardless of where they attempt to evade arrest.
Commending the investigating team for their professionalism and diligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, praised the officers whose efforts led to the breakthrough. He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and strategic leadership.
Ohagwu reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property, warning that individuals involved in criminal activities would face the full weight of the law. He further urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to support crime-fighting efforts across the state.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
