Tragic: Son Allegedly Beats Father to Death in Ondo

A 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly beating his biological father, Adone Peter, 65, to death in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident, which has generated concern among residents of the community, reportedly occurred on May 28, 2026, following a violent altercation between the suspect and his father.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, preliminary investigations revealed that the disagreement escalated into a physical assault during which the deceased allegedly sustained severe head injuries.
The police said the victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a doctor while receiving medical attention.
The case was reported to the police by Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an investigation.
“Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives apprehended the suspect and took him into custody for questioning,” the statement said.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The police disclosed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as unfortunate, reprehensible and contrary to societal values.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served and warned against all forms of violence.
The police commissioner also urged residents to embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes, stressing that disagreements within families or communities should never degenerate into violence resulting in injury or loss of life.
He further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities and criminal acts to security agencies promptly.
