Ekiti Has Over 1.05 Million Registered Voters, Ado-Ekiti Tops INEC List

By Olusegun HOSEA
Ado-Ekiti – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that Ekiti State has a total of 1,059,360 registered voters spread across 2,445 polling units and 177 registration areas, with Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area accounting for the largest share of the electorate.
The figures, contained in INEC’s Delimitation and Voter Registration Information report, reveal significant disparities in voter distribution across the state’s 16 local government areas ahead of future elections.
According to the report, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, leads the voter register with 189,432 registered voters, representing nearly 18 per cent of the state’s total electorate. The council also has the highest number of polling units at 344, spread across 13 registration areas, while its estimated population stands at 606,779.
At the other end of the spectrum is Ilejemeje Local Government Area, which has the smallest voter population with 20,862 registered voters, 91 polling units, and 10 registration areas. Its estimated population is 74,185.
The report further shows that Ekiti State’s estimated population is 4,166,374, indicating that registered voters constitute about 25.4 per cent of the population.
In terms of polling unit distribution, Oye Local Government ranks second with 191 polling units, followed by Ikole with 189, while Ilejemeje has the least with 91.
The commission also listed Oye LGA as having the highest number of Registration Area Centres (RACs) with nine, while Efon and Ekiti South-West have the fewest, with five each.
Analysis of the figures indicates that Ado-Ekiti alone has more registered voters than the combined total of five local government areas—Emure, Ise/Orun, Ilejemeje, Efon, and Moba.
The INEC delimitation and voter registration data are expected to play a crucial role in election planning, allocation of voting materials, deployment of ad hoc personnel, and campaign strategies ahead of future elections across the state.
