The Ondo State Government has appointed Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, following his emergence as the top candidate among 15 contenders for the institution’s highest office.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa approved the appointment after the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council, in accordance with the institution’s laws and regulations.
The Governing Council, chaired by Tunji Abayomi, selected Prof. Obamuyi after an interview process conducted by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
Professor Obamuyi, a renowned scholar in Banking and Finance, will take over from Olugbenga Ige as Vice-Chancellor.
Before his appointment, Obamuyi served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and became the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at Federal University of Technology, Akure.
His academic achievements earned him the 2015 Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa award presented by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius. He also served on accreditation teams of the National Universities Commission and participated in higher education review panels in Namibia.
The new Vice-Chancellor has presented scholarly papers at conferences across Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa, reflecting a strong international academic presence.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that Prof. Obamuyi’s experience and leadership would strengthen teaching, research, and community service at AAUA while consolidating the institution’s achievements.
The governor also urged him to uphold the university’s core values and promote peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff, students, and other stakeholders, assuring continued government support for the institution’s growth and development.
