The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State, Comrade Dudu Ademola, has urged the people of Osun State to come out en masse and exercise their civic responsibility by voting for candidates of their choice in the ongoing governorship election.
Ademola, who spoke while assessing the conduct of the election, said the exercise had so far progressed peacefully despite initial fears and concerns over possible disruptions.
He attributed the relatively peaceful conduct of the election to the presence of security agencies and electoral officials, saying stakeholders had made adequate preparations to ensure that the process was conducted in accordance with the law.
“I think my assessment is that the thing is going well. They have started well now because everybody was panicking before, thinking there would be problems and issues.
“But with the presence of the security agencies and the electoral officers, INEC and all, I think they are all doing well now. They have started well,” he said.
The NURTW chairman described the union as a stakeholder in the electoral process, stressing that its members were also part of the democratic process.
He called on eligible voters to participate actively in the election and cast their ballots for their preferred candidates.
According to him, the outcome of the election should be determined by the votes of the people, stressing that whoever emerges winner should be accepted provided the process is free, fair and peaceful.
“I think the vote of the good people of Osun State will determine the winner of the election. Whoever comes out to be the winner will be appreciated, provided it is fair, sound and peaceful,” Ademola stated.
He also said the union was monitoring the election and documenting developments during the exercise, adding that any observed lapses or difficulties should be addressed by the relevant authorities.
Ademola further appealed to the people of Osun State not to be afraid, assuring them that they could exercise their franchise peacefully.
“My advice to Osun people is to come out en masse. They should not fear anything. There is nothing going to happen. Everything will be peaceful,” he said.
He urged voters to respect the rules governing the election and avoid actions capable of disrupting the democratic process.
