FEDPOLEL Registry Retreat: Ondo Head of Service Urges Staff to Deepen Digital Skills
The Head of Service of Ondo State, Chief Segun Odusanya, has charged Registry professionals at the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji (FEDPOLEL), to continually upgrade their digital skills and professional competence to meet the demands of modern tertiary institution administration.
Odusanya gave the charge while delivering the keynote address at the Second Registry Retreat of the Polytechnic, held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Institution’s 1,500-capacity Multipurpose Auditorium.
The retreat, themed “Enhancing Digital Skills and Professional Excellence in Registry Practice for Polytechnic Education in the 21st Century,” focused on the growing importance of technology, professional development and ethical standards in Registry administration.
According to the Head of Service, the theme was timely and reflected the realities of a rapidly changing educational environment, where technology has become central to effective institutional administration.
He, however, cautioned that technology alone could not guarantee excellence, stressing that the real value of digital transformation depended on the competence, adaptability and commitment of the people operating the systems.
Odusanya commended the Management of the Polytechnic, particularly the Registry Department, for embracing digital transformation in pursuit of the Institution’s vision and mission and in contributing to the development of Polytechnic education in Nigeria.
He urged Registry staff to remain committed to excellence, saying, “Do your best and be the best.”
Also speaking at the retreat, the outgoing Registrar of the Institution, Mr. Gabriel Adeyemi Awe, highlighted the need for modern Registry systems capable of preserving, retrieving and managing institutional records efficiently.
Awe, who spoke on “Modern Registry in Polytechnic Education,” stressed the limitations of manual record-keeping, noting that information could easily be lost when managed manually.
He identified intentionality, continuity, regular staff training and adequate government funding as critical factors for the successful adoption and sustainability of digital practices in Registry operations.
Earlier, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku, urged Registry personnel to fully embrace digital transformation and remain lifelong learners in order to keep pace with developments in the 21st century.
Ebeloku said the future of Registry practice belonged to professionals willing to learn, adapt and innovate while maintaining the highest standards of integrity.
He charged participants to see the retreat as a call to action rather than merely another institutional event, urging them to translate the knowledge gained into practical measures that would improve Registry operations and enhance service delivery to staff, students and other stakeholders.
The Rector also commended the outgoing Registrar for introducing the e-Appraisal System for the 2026 Annual Appraisal Evaluation Exercise, describing it as an initiative that had significantly reduced the burden and cost associated with the production of traditional manual appraisal forms.
He pledged the Institution’s continued support for staff development and capacity building.
The guest lecturer and Registrar of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, Dr. Popoola Julius Oluseye, in his presentation, “ICT Tools for Registry Efficiency,” said the application of ICT in Registry operations could improve productivity through faster task completion, greater data accuracy, easier access to information and enhanced security of records.
Popoola also noted that electronic storage of files could reduce the need for physical office space, while stressing the importance of interdependence among Registry units for effective service delivery.
He said ICT tools were essential for accomplishing more tasks accurately and efficiently within shorter periods.
The Deputy Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs, Mr. Oluyemi Bamidele Adebiyi, who spoke on “Student Records and Registry Operations,” said effective management of student records was essential for informed decision-making, accountability, planning and service delivery.
Adebiyi explained that reliable student data was particularly important during audits, investigations, accreditation exercises and management reviews.
He added that accurate information on student population, programmes, admission trends, completion rates, withdrawals and academic performance could assist Management in making informed decisions on staffing, infrastructure, budgeting and future academic programmes.
Another presentation, “Ethics, Confidentiality and Professional Conduct in Public Service,” was delivered by the Deputy Registrar, Division of Council Affairs and General Administration, Mr. Rasaq Ola Adebayo.
Adebayo emphasised the importance of sound work ethics, confidentiality and professionalism in public service, noting that professional conduct promotes public trust, cooperation and compliance while reducing waste within the system.
He warned that poor professionalism could lead to delays, corruption and cynicism, stressing that the progress of any organisation depended largely on the ethical values, trust, accuracy and confidentiality maintained by its workforce.
The retreat also featured the presentation of Awards of Excellence to individuals recognised for their contributions to the Registry Department.
Recipients included the Ondo State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya; Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Dele Adesanmi; the Rector, Dr. Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku; guest lecturer, Dr. Popoola Julius Oluseye; Managing Director, Pathgate Resources Ltd., Mr. Patrick Akinsipe; Chief Executive Officer, BANDEF Foundation, Mr. Bankole Desmond-Eke; and the outgoing Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Adeyemi Awe.
Six Registry personnel were also honoured for outstanding performance in various categories.
They were Mr. Damilola Ayodeji Akintunde, Senior Assistant Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs, who received the Outstanding Administrative Performance Award of Excellence; Mr. Festus Boluwatife Ogunruku, Senior Assistant Registrar, Rector’s Office, who received the Outstanding Head of Unit Award of Excellence; and Mr. Ayodeji Daniel Olugboyega, Assistant Registrar, Division of Personnel Affairs, who received the Outstanding Innovative Award of Excellence.
Others were Mrs. Effiong Edet Ekpenyong, Assistant Chief Confidential Secretary, Registrar’s Office, who received the Outstanding Confidential Secretary Award of Excellence; Mr. Kehinde Daramola, Principal Executive Officer I, Division of Academic Affairs, who received the Outstanding Executive Officer Award of Excellence; and Miss Taiwo Mercy Akintunde, Assistant Chief Clerical Officer, Registrar’s Office, who received the Outstanding Clerical Officer Award of Excellence.
The well-attended event attracted Principal Officers of the Polytechnic and other dignitaries from within and outside the institution.
The retreat reaffirmed FEDPOLEL’s commitment to digital transformation, continuous professional development, ethical conduct and excellence in Registry practice, with a focus on improving institutional efficiency and delivering responsive services to its stakeholders.
