Oyebade: I’m Not a Political Follower, I Support Leaders With Proven Capacity
23rd September, 2026 AKURE
Dr. Adeniran Oyebade has said his involvement in Nigerian politics is driven by leadership capacity, competence and the ability to deliver results, rather than personal loyalty to any individual political figure.
Oyebade stated this in a press statement made available to our Reporter in Akure on Sunday, September 20, 2026, stressing that he does not consider himself a political follower of any particular leader.
According to him, his political decisions are guided by what individuals represent and their demonstrated ability to provide purposeful leadership and contribute meaningfully to the development of society.
He said political participation should focus on advancing the interests of the people and supporting leaders with the vision, competence and commitment to translate policies and ideas into tangible development.
Oyebade added that his support for political figures is therefore based on their capacity and track record rather than personal attachment to political godfathers.
The politician, who has been active in political engagements since his younger years, has participated in various mobilisation efforts, campaigns and political movements.
In April 2024, Oyebade was identified as the Director-General of the Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation in Ondo Central Senatorial District during protests by supporters of several aspirants over the conduct of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Ondo State.
Months later, reports indicated that Oyebade led a group of former APC members who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State ahead of the 2024 governorship election. The Nation reported that the group was led by Oyebade, a former APC senatorial aspirant, and that he pledged to work for the success of the PDP and its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi.
His defection was also reported by other media outlets, with accounts putting the number of defectors at more than 12,000, although reports differed on the precise figure and geographical scope of the group.
Oyebade’s latest statement appears to reinforce his position that political engagement should not be defined by permanent allegiance to individual politicians but by the capacity of leaders to deliver on their responsibilities to the people.
He maintained that he would continue to support individuals whom he believes possess the capacity, vision and commitment required to provide effective representation and purposeful leadership.
