SOUTH WEST GOVERNORS AGREE ON STRATEGIC MEASURES TO IMPROVE SECURITY AND COMBAT FOOD INFLATION

The six Governors of Nigeria’s South West region have come together to enhance security measures and address the region’s food inflation crisis, making significant strides towards regional cooperation.

At a crucial meeting held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the governors’ agreement to set up a specialized security outfit designed to tackle banditry and other criminal activities in the region. Additionally, the governors are focused on combating rising food prices through joint food hubs aimed at promoting food security.

The meeting, which was attended by Governor Sanwo-Olu, alongside Ondo’s Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governors Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun), discussed key regional challenges such as security, agriculture, and economic collaboration. One notable outcome of the meeting was the decision to establish the South West Development Commission headquarters in Ibadan, within the Cocoa House of Odua Investment Limited.

The governors also expressed their strong commitment to preventing any infiltration by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) into the region. They commended President Bola Tinubu for his reforms in stabilizing the naira and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.

As part of ongoing efforts to counter food inflation, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that the region will establish a joint monitoring team to assess and reduce food inflation, while individual states will set up food logistics hubs to ensure a steady supply of affordable food.

The governors remain optimistic about their collaborative efforts in addressing the region’s security and economic challenges.

Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan,
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State.
