OAUSTECH Strengthens Global Academic Reputation as Two Scholars Join World’s Elite Scientists List

18th October, 2025

In a remarkable affirmation of its growing academic influence, the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, has seen two of its researchers, Dr. Adeleke Bartholomew Saanu and Dr. Akinyele Daniel Oluwaseun, ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists in the 2025 global listing by Stanford University and Elsevier.

The annual Top 2% Scientists list identifies the most influential researchers worldwide based on citation impact, utilizing comprehensive data from Scopus as of August 1, 2025, covering citations up to the end of 2024.

According to the latest rankings, Dr. Adeleke placed 134,616 globally in the field of Plant Biology and Botany, while Dr. Akinyele ranked 84,004 in Engineering. Notably, this marks Dr. Adeleke’s second consecutive appearance, highlighting sustained excellence in his research contributions.

Reacting to the international recognition, OAUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, expressed pride in the scholars’ achievements, describing it as a validation of the University’s commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence.

“I congratulate Dr. Adeleke and Dr. Akinyele, along with their Schools and Departments, for bringing this global honour to OAUSTECH,” Prof. Ologunorisa said. “This recognition reinforces our vision of becoming a world-class science and technology institution. I urge other scholars to emulate this success for their own growth and for the advancement of the University.”

Reflecting on his achievement, Dr. Adeleke attributed his ranking to a mix of divine grace, hard work, discipline, perseverance, and strong mentorship. He extended gratitude to mentors such as Prof. Olubukola O. Babalola (South Africa), Prof. Bamidele J. Akinyele, Dr. Oladipo O. Olaniyi, and Prof. Ruth A. Gabriel-Ajobiewe, among others.

He also honoured the memory of his parents, late Pa. Julius Adeleke Ajayi and Madam Veronica Ifefaola Ajayi, for their moral grounding, and acknowledged the encouragement of the University community.

Similarly, Dr. Akinyele expressed joy at being named among the global elite in his field, crediting his success to persistence, collaboration, and an enduring passion for scientific inquiry.

“Being recognized at this level is a humbling experience,” Dr. Akinyele said. “I thank God, the University leadership, my mentors, colleagues, and family for their unflinching support. I also urge OAUSTECH to keep strengthening its research ecosystem. Sustaining such an environment will position the University as a hub for cutting-edge scientific innovation in Africa and beyond.”

This global recognition adds to OAUSTECH’s rising academic profile and underscores the institution’s commitment to research excellence on the international stage.
