The Akure Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Thursday night celebrated excellence in governance and justice-sector partnership as it conferred two of its most distinguished honours on Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and the Chairman of OSOPADEC, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye.
During the colourful ceremony, held at The Dome, International Culture and Event Center in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa received the prestigious Ambassador of the Rule of Law Award. The NBA described the honour as a recognition of his steadfast commitment to judicial independence, fairness in governance, and efforts to elevate constitutional values across Ondo State.
Prince Poroye, who heads the Ondo State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), was presented with the Friend of the Bar Award, given to public officials who have demonstrated exceptional support for legal institutions and justice-sector reforms. The professional body commended Poroye for maintaining an open-door policy with legal practitioners and strengthening collaboration between government agencies and the justice system.
The awards formed a highlight of the 2025 NBA Akure Law Week, drawing notable figures from the legal community, government circles, and civil society. Attendees praised the recognitions as timely and well deserved, noting that they reflect an increasingly robust partnership between the legal profession and the state government.
