60TH BIRTHDAY: OAUSTECH VC, OLOGUNORISA, JOINS POROYE FOR MARITIME UNIVERSITY INSPECTION
…As preparations gather momentum for February 2027 unveiling of maritime university at Ugbonla
The Vice-Chancellor of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Professor Temi Ologunorisa, marked his 60th birthday by joining the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Biyi Poroye, on an inspection tour of the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics at Ugbonla.
The inspection comes amid growing expectations in OSOPADEC mandate areas over the planned unveiling of the maritime institution by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in February 2027.
Rather than remain engrossed in activities marking his diamond jubilee, the renowned academic joined the OSOPADEC chairman to assess the level of work at the facility, underscoring the importance of sustained commitment, institutional collaboration and timely delivery of projects designed to expand educational and economic opportunities in the coastal areas.

The visit also highlighted the growing significance of the maritime institution to the educational and economic development of the Ilaje and Ese-Odo axis, where residents have long anticipated greater access to specialised education and opportunities linked to the blue economy.
The planned unveiling of the institution in February 2027 is expected to mark a significant milestone in the development aspirations of the OSOPADEC mandate areas, particularly in maritime education, skills acquisition and human capital development.
The inspection forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure that projects under the Commission’s development agenda translate into tangible benefits for the people.
The School of Maritime Transport and Logistics is expected to provide a platform for specialised training in maritime-related disciplines, equipping students with relevant knowledge and skills to participate in the expanding maritime and logistics sectors.
The visit by the OAUSTECH Vice-Chancellor also points to the potential for stronger collaboration between academic institutions and development agencies in advancing technical education, research and professional training.
