After more than 16 years of neglect, vital infrastructure in Agadgba-Obon and surrounding riverine communities is seeing an unprecedented resurgence, thanks to the relentless efforts of Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC). His swift action on long-dormant projects is turning the tide for critical public services, with the revival of Agadgba-Obon General Hospital, the completion of roadworks, and more developments underway.
During a recent on-the-ground inspection, Prince Poroye highlighted the remarkable pace of progress in the region, pointing to a dramatic turnaround of infrastructure that had been left to deteriorate for over a decade and a half. In a period of just three to four months, the abandoned Agadgba-Obon General Hospital has been brought back to life, with the first phase slated for completion within two weeks.
The OSOPADEC Chairman lauded the contributions of Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who has embraced a people-centered approach to governance by prioritizing the completion of long-inherited projects rather than leaving them to languish. The hospital project, in particular, has benefited from additional interventions, including the installation of water systems and boreholes, ensuring that the hospital will be well-equipped to serve its community once completed.
Local residents were quick to express their joy at the rapid progress. Mr. Marcus Eniyekedou, an indigene of Agadgba-Obon, noted the visible improvements, including the installation of windows and doors and the restoration of the water system, voicing hope that the project will be completed within the promised timeline.
Prince Poroye’s efforts extend beyond healthcare facilities. The completion of the 1km Igbotu township road, which was delayed due to inherited payment issues, is now ready for commissioning. The road will be officially opened as part of the activities marking the Ondo State Governor’s one-year anniversary in office.
Further advancements are also being made on the 28.5km Aboto–Atijere Road, with 14 kilometers of the stretch already completed. Intensive work is ongoing to ensure long-term durability, including the installation of drainage systems and culverts.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the inspection also covered key projects such as the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics in Ugbonla and the Aboto Water Treatment Plant. With these developments, OSOPADEC is reinforcing its commitment to holistic, inclusive growth for the oil-producing areas of Ondo State.
Looking ahead, Prince Poroye promised that more projects are in the works for the upcoming budget year, with the welfare and development of the riverine communities remaining at the forefront of OSOPADEC’s mission.
