Ilaje Strengthens Primary Healthcare with Equipment Rollout, Monitoring Team Plan

The Executive Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Hon. (Chief) Maurice Ola Oripenaye, has flagged off the distribution of medical equipment to health facilities across the 12 wards of the council, in a move aimed at boosting primary healthcare delivery and improving service quality.
The distribution, held on Monday at the Basic Modern Health Centre in Igbokoda, is part of an initiative by the Ondo State Government through the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (OSPHCDA), in collaboration with the LMCU and Impact Project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oripenaye said the intervention reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to strengthening the health sector. He noted that the provision of modern equipment would enhance service delivery and ensure that healthcare centres are adequately equipped to meet the needs of residents.
The council boss also announced plans to establish a Local Government monitoring team to oversee the use and maintenance of the equipment. According to him, the team will conduct regular inspections to ensure accountability and prevent misuse.
He warned health workers against negligence, dereliction of duty, and poor handling of government property, stressing that his administration would not tolerate any form of recklessness within the system.
Oripenaye further commended the state government for prioritising healthcare and for partnering with development agencies to improve service delivery. He urged health officers across the wards to demonstrate professionalism, commitment, and dedication to their duties.
In his remarks, the Primary Healthcare Director in Ilaje Local Government, Dr. Oluwaminu Ayelaje, applauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for revitalising primary healthcare in the state. He also appreciated the council chairman for his consistent support towards PHC programmes in the area.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ward Development Committee in Ugbo Ward III, Mr. Mebawondu, called on the government to create more employment opportunities in the health sector to strengthen operations at the grassroots level.
Dignitaries at the event included the Leader of the Ilaje Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Ikuemehinlo Omosule; Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Segun Odolo; Supervisor for Health, Hon. Rita Ogunbiyi; Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Fayowole Korolo; religious leaders, councillors, PHC workers, and other stakeholders.
