The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has decried the worsening wave of insecurity, kidnappings and killings across Nigeria, declaring that the country is gradually losing its sense of humanity and value for human life.
Speaking at the end of a three-day national fasting and prayer programme held from May 22 to May 24, the National President of PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, lamented the continued attacks by bandits, kidnappers and insurgents in several parts of the country.
The Christian body cited the continued captivity of some Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu, as well as the killing of Deborah Samuel, as signs of worsening insecurity and religious intolerance.
PFN also expressed concern over recurring violence in Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Southern Kaduna, Edo, Kogi, Ondo and Kwara states, while describing Oyo State as the latest “killing field” following the abduction of teachers and students and the killing of teacher Michael Oyedokun.
The fellowship accused political leaders of paying more attention to elections than tackling insecurity, alleging that the government had failed to demonstrate enough political will to end terrorism and violent attacks nationwide.
PFN further condemned the rehabilitation of repentant Boko Haram members, warning that the country’s security system had been compromised.
The body called on the Federal Government to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens regardless of tribe or religion and urged authorities to seek international support in combating insecurity.
PFN also urged churches across the country to unite in prayer, repentance and advocacy against violence, stressing that silence only empowers killers and their sponsors.
“We have fasted. We have prayed. Now we speak,” the group declared.
