Father Burns 10-Year-Old with Pressing Iron for Bedwetting in Ondo
A 10-year-old girl is receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, after her father allegedly burnt her with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, the suspect, identified as Amos Paul of Unaun, Upenme, Owo Local Government Area, was arrested following the alleged assault on his daughter.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident was reported to the police on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used a hot pressing iron to burn the private part of the 10-year-old girl as punishment for bedwetting.
The police said the victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the report, detectives from the ‘A’ Division in Owo swiftly mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect, and took him into custody.
According to the statement, the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit for a discreet investigation and further necessary action in line with established procedures.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as cruel, inhumane, and completely unacceptable.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from abuse, violence, and exploitation.
He also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence, and other related offences to the nearest police station, assuring residents that the Command would ensure offenders are brought to justice.
The police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
