In a significant move to address the long-standing issue of teacher shortages in public schools, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the employment of 1,010 new secondary school teachers.

This approval follows the completion of the recruitment process by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which screened thousands of applicants last year. The list of successful candidates will be published today online and displayed at TESCOM headquarters and its zonal offices across the state starting tomorrow, March 4.

The new recruits are expected to begin their documentation immediately. This employment marks a critical step in the Governor’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s education sector. Last year, Governor Aiyedatiwa had also approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers for both secondary and primary schools in the state, a move aimed at addressing staffing shortages, particularly in rural areas.

The Governor’s initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the quality of education in Ondo State, alongside recent measures such as the approval of N633 million for students’ registration for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination and the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
