Governor Orders Rehabilitation of Internal Roads in Institutions

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, held a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ondo State on Thursday to address concerns regarding education and students’ welfare.

This meeting followed a protest organized by the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of NANS in Akure, where students raised concerns about the conditions in some of their institutions.

During the meeting at the Governor’s Office, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the student leaders that many of their concerns were already being addressed by his administration. He commended the students for their peaceful protest and reiterated his government’s commitment to improving education, including increasing subventions for tertiary institutions and providing bursaries and scholarships.

The Governor also issued a directive to the Ministry of Infrastructure to rehabilitate the internal roads within the institutions, noting that designs for some of these roads, including those leading to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, were already completed. Additionally, he revealed that intervention agencies had been engaged to accelerate the completion of abandoned hostel projects at several institutions.

Governor Aiyedatiwa further instructed the management of the former Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo to prepare for the convocation of graduates from the past ten sessions.

On security, the Governor assured that peace had largely been restored in the state, with improved coordination among security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Other issues addressed included the renovation of the NYSC camp at Ikare Akoko, land grabbing at the Federal College of Agriculture in Akure, and the provision of buses for Students Union Governments.

The student leaders expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his responsiveness and the commitments made to resolve their concerns.

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Mr. Kelvin Solomon Olaolu; and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment, Mr. Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore.

Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan,
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State
