Police Arrest Prime Suspect in the Murder of Renowned Ondo Businessman

The Ondo State Police have arrested Afolabi Ijalo, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of prominent businessman Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila, who was killed on March 1, 2025, in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area.

The breakthrough came after weeks of intense investigation and sophisticated technical surveillance by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Ijalo was apprehended on Wednesday, April 10, 2025, in Ore, where a search of his residence led to the discovery of crucial evidence, including a locally made pistol, which police believe was used in the crime, as well as assorted charms and dangerous cudgels.

The suspect is currently in police custody, and authorities say he has made a “useful confession” during interrogation that could potentially lead to the identification and arrest of additional accomplices involved in the murder.

State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, reassured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that justice will be served as the authorities work to bring all perpetrators to justice.
