Prof. Temi Ologunorisa Emerges President of Social Sciences Academy of Nigeria

29th November, 2025

The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, Professor Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, has been unanimously elected President of the Social Sciences Academy of Nigeria (SSAN). His emergence was announced during the Academy’s Annual General Meeting held on 28 November 2025 in Abuja.

Founded in 1983, the Social Science Academy of Nigeria is the country’s foremost non-governmental institution dedicated to advancing social science research and scholarship. It serves as a hub for knowledge exchange, capacity development, and policy engagement, particularly through its flagship journal, Annals of the Social Science Academy of Nigeria.

A distinguished geographer and climate scientist, Prof. Ologunorisa’s work focuses on climate–society interactions, climate change policy, and disaster management relating to droughts and floods. He is widely decorated, including receiving the United States Scholar of Extraordinary Ability award in 2018. His academic footprint spans prestigious global institutions such as Tokyo Metropolitan University, the University of Missouri–Kansas City, the National University of Singapore, and McMaster University, Canada. He is also a Fellow of the Social Science Academy of Nigeria (FSSAN).

At OAUSTECH, Prof. Ologunorisa has overseen notable advancements in research, infrastructure, and academic development, strengthening the university’s profile as a rising force in science and technology education.

As the newly elected President of SSAN, he is expected to steer the Academy toward deeper engagement with national development challenges, leveraging social science research to inform policy and societal transformation.

Members of the Academy have described his election as a well-deserved recognition of his scholarship, leadership, and long-standing commitment to the growth of the social sciences in Nigeria.
