Police Nab Two Over Alleged Cattle Theft in Ondo

Date :21st January,2026

Security operatives in Ondo State have arrested two young men over their alleged involvement in cattle theft along the Ipele–Ifon axis of the state, following a routine patrol by the police.
The Ondo State Police Command said the suspects were apprehended on January 9, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Section, who intercepted them after observing suspicious movements in the area.
The suspects were identified as Adamu Ilyasu, 25, and Ibrahim Sulaiman, 22. According to the police, a search conducted on them led to the recovery of ₦67,500 in cash, which they reportedly failed to explain satisfactorily.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ilyasu confessed to stealing two cows belonging to his father and selling them to an unidentified buyer. Further confessional statements by both suspects allegedly linked them to a cattle theft syndicate that has been operating for more than three years, targeting Fulani herdsmen within and outside Ondo State.
The police said the suspects also provided information on their accomplices and locations, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate. The suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, attributed the success to the strategic leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, noting that recent reforms and technological innovations have continued to strengthen police operations across the state.
Lawal reassured residents of the command’s resolve to combat criminal activities and urged parents and guardians to instill values of integrity, discipline and hard work in their children. He also called on members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
The Ondo State Police Command can be reached via 0906 058 8958 or through its official social media platforms for further inquiries.
