Police Bust Suspected Cult Meeting, Arrest Five in Ondo Community

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have disrupted a suspected cult gathering in Akungba Akoko, leading to the arrest of five individuals allegedly linked to unlawful activities.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad on March 27, 2026, followed credible intelligence from residents who reported suspicious movements at a residential building in the area. According to the police, the suspects were allegedly holding a secret meeting and chanting cult-related slogans, raising concerns over public safety.
Police sources disclosed that the operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, cordoned off the location, and apprehended the suspects without incident. Those arrested were identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele, and Akeju Idowu.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of the Eiye Confraternity, a group reportedly associated with violent crimes and threats to public peace.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended both the officers involved in the operation and members of the public who provided timely information that led to the arrests. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other criminal activities through intelligence-led policing.
The police added that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering other members of the group and preventing further criminal acts. Authorities assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement agencies with credible information, as the Command intensifies efforts to ensure safety across the state.
